These terms cover every Star Kids program: camps, robotics classes held at your child's school, robotics classes at our academy, and the Star Kids Academy After School program. Where the after school program differs, it is called out.

Because of the high volume of interest in our courses and our limited space, we cannot hold a registration without payment.
We work hard to create an environment where every student can learn and take part, so please enroll your child only if he or she is interested in the subject matter.
Camp and class prices can change during the year. Prices are set for a limited number of seats and rise as seats fill, because our facility rental, insurance, equipment and instructor costs are charged per student.
The price you see is honored only at checkout. If you do not complete checkout and the price changes before you do, the earlier price no longer applies.
All sales are final unless the class is tried out.
All registrations can be transferred to any class or camp for up to one year from the date of registration. Transfer requests must be in writing to admin@starkidsafterschool.org.
Purchases are non-refundable unless the student attends the first day of camp or class and, by the end of that first day, decides it is not something they will enjoy. In that case a refund request must be made in writing by email. The refund is the payment minus a $35 registration cancellation fee, minus payment processing fees, minus the prorated cost of the first day.
All transfer and cancellation requests must be submitted no later than seven days before the first day of the registered camp. Requests made inside seven days are subject to a $50 late transfer or cancellation fee. This reflects the administrative costs and facility commitments already in place for that week.
The Star Kids Academy After School program is billed as a monthly subscription rather than per session.
| What | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Enrollment fee, one time | $75 | At registration, non-refundable |
| Tuition | $950 per month | 1st of each month |
| Materials fee | $150 per month | 1st of each month |
| Star Kids Robotics add on, optional | $40 per week, about $160 per month | 1st of each month |
Tuition is a fixed monthly amount and does not change with the number of school days in the month. Tuition is not credited or refunded for any day or week we are closed.
Optional program options can be added or dropped at any time while registration is open. Email admin@starkidsafterschool.org and we update your monthly payment from our side. You do not need to register again. New options are announced through the year.
You receive an email as soon as a card is declined, and the card is retried automatically over the following days. If the payment has not cleared by the 5th, then from the 6th the balance owed is the full month plus a $50 late fee. If it cannot be cleared we will talk with you about withdrawing so the seat can go to a family on the waiting list.
The After School program runs year round. Your monthly payment covers school break weeks as well as school weeks. Families may stay enrolled through the summer or pause and return in the fall.
Pausing for the summer. Give written notice at admin@starkidsafterschool.org. Your last billed month is the one you have already paid for. To hold your space for the fall, pay the first month of fall tuition up front. Without that payment your return is subject to availability and you may join the waiting list.
Student work. All projects and materials go home or into the recycling by the fifth day after the term ends in May. Please collect your child's work before then.
During any week when the schools are not in session, there is no pickup service. There is no school to collect from, so parents drop their students off at our site those weeks. Everything else about the program runs as normal.
Star Kids Academy runs camps during most school break periods. Enrolled After School students receive a discount on those camps. Camps are registered for separately.
If we decide to close for a full week, for example when a camp does not run for that break, we will notify enrolled families in advance.
You may cancel at any time. Tell us in writing at admin@starkidsafterschool.org and your child finishes the month you have already paid for. There is no notice period and no partial month. Camp registrations are separate and follow the camp refund policy.
The $75 enrollment fee is not refundable, and a month already paid is not refunded. Unused value may be transferred to a Star Kids class or camp within one year, as above.
Our classrooms hold 26 students. When a program is full, further registrations join a waiting list in the order they are received.
If a seat opens we contact families on the list in order. You are not charged tuition while you are on the waiting list.
We offer scholarships to low income families upon request and availability, with proof of income. One scholarship is given per school per semester. Please contact us for scholarship availability at your school.
Star Kids Academy is an educational program that runs on a regular schedule, so classes begin on time and end on time. Our instructors have other classes to get to.
Pickup is at the end of the session, with a 5 minute grace period. Every minute after that is charged at $1 per minute. This applies to camps, to robotics classes held at your child's school, and to the After School program, where the day ends at 6:30pm and charges begin at 6:35pm.
We may waive the grace period entirely now and again when something genuinely unavoidable happens. That is at our discretion and is not something to plan around.
If you need special accommodations, tell us in advance.
Families outside our pickup area. Students from outside the schools we serve are welcome. Those families arrange their own transportation to Star Kids Academy.
If you would like your student to leave for an on-site after-school program or a designated pickup area after our class, select "Student may leave to designated pick up or after-school program" at registration. In that case Star Kids Academy is not responsible for your child after the class has ended and our liability has been released.
Students are not allowed to wait in the school office, so parents must pick up their students on time.
For the After School program, the full handoff rules, who may collect your child, and what happens if nobody arrives are in our Pickup and Late Pickup Policy.
Star Kids Academy may photograph, video, and audio record during classes, competitions, and practices. These images may be used on our website and in our materials.
For camps and classes, agreeing to these terms gives Star Kids Academy permission to use this media. After School families choose separately at registration and may change their answer at any time by emailing us. We never publish a student's full name alongside their photo.
We understand that accidents happen. However, robots are expensive and our courses require a certain level of maturity to handle the equipment. Parents are held responsible for any damage from disrespectful play, for example throwing the robots intentionally.
We believe that all children are important and valued. If your child needs any accommodation, we are happy to open a dialogue with you about what environment we can create together that would suit them best.
Our robotics courses take a great deal of attention and focus from our instructors, so in some cases an aide in the classroom is the right support. Please contact us at the time of registration so we can get to know the situation and make the best of the class. Email admin@starkidsafterschool.org with any questions.
Outdoor time takes place on our own grounds and students do not leave the property.
Our staff are trained in the safe use of every tool and material students work with, and they teach students to handle equipment correctly before using it. Students are supervised at all times. Running inside the classroom, rough play, and climbing or standing on structures that are not built for it are not allowed, indoors or outside.
If a student is injured, we give first aid, contact you, and complete a written incident report. You receive a copy.
Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.
Star Kids Academy programs are hands on. Students build with tools and materials, work with electronics and moving parts, and take part in active play indoors and outdoors. Even with full supervision and every reasonable precaution, there is a risk that a student may be injured. Common examples include cuts, scrapes, bruises, pinched fingers, falls, and burns from a hot glue gun or soldering equipment.
By registering your child, you acknowledge that you understand and accept these risks, and you agree to release Star Kids Academy, its officers, employees, instructors and volunteers from liability for any injury, illness, or loss of or damage to property arising from ordinary negligence in the course of our programs.
This release does not apply to gross negligence, recklessness, willful misconduct, or any conduct that California law does not permit to be released. Nothing in these terms limits your rights in those situations.
You also authorize us to obtain emergency medical care for your child if we cannot reach you, and you accept responsibility for the cost of that care.
Off site trips. We do not currently take students off site. If we ever plan one, a separate permission slip will be sent for that specific trip and no student attends without it.
Any snack Star Kids Academy serves is nut free and soy free. The After School program serves a snack daily. Camps and classes do not serve food.
Families may send anything they like from home. We keep nut free tables, and students do not share food with each other. Tell us about every allergy at registration.
Please write down or print your child's schedule for the semester. We post an updated schedule with the start date, end date, and days off. After School families get the schedule linked in their enrollment email, and camp families get it in the camp welcome email. We are not responsible for parents not knowing the schedule for classes.
For camps, the welcome email typically goes out the weekend or week before camp begins. Ask us anything in the meantime.
If you are a parent who would like to volunteer, email us directly.
After School families receive a receipt in their enrollment email showing the student's name, the amount paid, the month it covers, our address, and our EIN. Camp and class families print the original receipt sent at registration. Our nonprofit EIN is 30-1322961.
Treat all students and instructors with respect and kindness. Harassment, bullying, hate speech, discrimination, or any form of disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
Students must be able to show and demonstrate appropriate classroom etiquette and behavior to participate in our courses. Because the subject matter is taught in the classroom, it requires attention, and that subject matter is used to complete projects.
Students who are not able to display regular classroom etiquette, or who have behavior issues, should be coached by parents in this etiquette before enrolling in our courses. Examples of classroom etiquette include, but are not limited to, raising hands when wanting to speak, speaking about relevant subject matter that pertains to the class they are participating in, keeping and giving space to other students, proper exchange of materials between students, and being polite and respectful to others.
Although we understand children are growing and learning, and we are always happy to teach, we would like a basic understanding of treating others with kindness before enrolling in our courses.
Where a family has told us about a medical condition or an accommodation at registration, we talk with the parents and work out the right approach together rather than running this process.
Star Kids Academy has zero tolerance for bullying and for physical harm to others.
If a student physically harms another student or themselves, parents are called right away and a written report is made. Whether that student may return is at the discretion of the school director. There is no warning step for this.
